I am spending more time out there with the warm weather and figured “Hey! Why the eff not?”
\nSo, up into The Closet in my office with me to dig out the touchscreen LCD.
\nI had recently upgraded the eeePC to Fedora 17 (Man! 17? I remember when Fedora Core 1 was released!) and figured hooking this old monitor up to it would be easy-peasy and work like FM. Nope. The monitor, yes, that worked. But the touchscreen portion did not. Looking around online for a few minutes, it quickly became obvious that this was going to be a non-starter because of the amount of time it would take to edit, test, re-edit, re-test, etc, re-etc xorg.conf. Sorry, Linux. Those days are done for me.
\nThen I thought “Hey! What about Windows 7? You’ve always wanted to install it on here. Let’s go dig up your old notes and see why this thing is running Fedora.” I came here first. Nothing. Then I searched the Tech forum at NycNyne. Nothing! Could it be? Had I never attempted this since I upgraded the SSD in the thing?!?!??! I don’t seem to have any mental scars from doing battle with this, so it might actually be that I just got busy with a pregnant wife and never got around to trying this!
\nWell, I am doing it right now.
\nThe initial install part went fast enough. I am installing to the larger but slower second drive of the SSD. I am now in the dreaded “Here be monsters” portion of the install that I was warned about on other sites: video drivers not loaded yet…black screen. Every now and again I see the hard drive LED flicker, so I know it is in there doing something. If worse comes to worst, I will just pop another LCD on there and see what is happening.
\nTouchscreen driver:
\nhttp:\/\/www.elotouch.com\/Support\/Downloads\/dnld.asp<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
I figured out that I want to have a touchscreen computer in the garage.
