Mary Buckley Proves Tom Hunter is a Relative
This is a recreation of an email that I sent to my father and sister a few nights ago. A few years back, I was caught up in the fever of being Irish-American. I found an unsung hero of the 1916 Easter Rising had really caught my attention, so I wrote a Wikipedia article about him.… Read the rest

Fort follow up
Take a guess what I did this weekend?
Yup. More fort building. Was aiming for 3 walls completed, if not mounted, by quitting time Sunday, but I only got 2.75 done.
I am out of Titebond III and 2.5″ screws and couldn’t see masking up to go to Big Orange for these meager supplies when I am going to need oh so much more next weekend.… Read the rest

Building the kid a fort
This is just the platform. The fort will sit on top. Platform is roughly 8’x8′. Fort will be 8’x4’x6′ at the front and 5′ high at the rear.
It isn’t quite square. In fact, one side drifts out about 2″ front to rear.… Read the rest
Build a Raspberry Pi Webcam Server in Minutes
I have this up and running with the official Pi NoIR v2.1 camera module. I purchased it from these guys, as Bezos has enough money already. This camera will soon be moved to the basement Pi to try and revive the OpenCV oil tank monitor project.… Read the rest

Pi-Hole with Unbound
Going right to the top on DNS lookups. I am liking Cloudflare’s offerings, but I want to try this solution out for a couple of days at least.
Checking Hard Disk Sanity With Smartmontools (Debian & Ubuntu)
Now that I have loads of files hanging off my Pi with zero redundancy, monitoring hard drive health is a pretty good idea.

Weather Station
So, out of the blue, my father emails me asking if Calin might enjoy a weather station. I figured he had an unused one that he found while cleaning out the house. I am fairly certain I have seen an unused weather station in that house before.… Read the rest
OneDrive on Linux: Take 3
I wrote about rclone yesterday, which claims to sync your OneDrive files to your Linux host. This is something that Microsoft has failed to provide to the Linux community. I was hoping to gather all of my files, and then Jenny’s files, to one main source in the house, and have that sync with OneDrive in order to get the whole cloud thing sorted finally.… Read the rest
Top Linux Distros at This Time

- I tried MX Linux, but it wants to run from a USB thumb drive, so…no.
- I’ve already detailed my not enjoyable experience with Manjaro.
- Elementary apparently wants money, so no. Yes, I am one of those Linux users.
