I’m going to be pretty frank here…

Pretty Frank Seaside Activated Charcoal deodorant freaking rules!

I finished up the last jar yesterday, 248 days after I opened it. Sure, there was the odd day or so in there where I was offensive even to myself, but, for the most part, it has been smooth sailing.… Read the rest

Let’s Encrypt V3

The Acme script that I use, like many people out there, to keep my Let’s Encrypt TLS/SSL certificate updated has recently had a breaking change of an upgrade. Namecheap, my hosting provider, is using an older version of OpenSSL. While this does not sound awesome, it is the upgrade from the previous version of OpenSSL that had a mega bug in it, so this isn’t too terrible.… Read the rest

Like Frankenstein’s Monster, Just Zap It With Electricity

Electricians are arrived at the house at about 8:00AM. Told me it’d be about four hours to install the 240-volt from the circuit breaker panel to the outdoor heat-pump. They were done a touch past 10:00AM.

I turned the Nest thermostat, which drives the oil burner, down to 58F and ran around setting the head-units to 66F.… Read the rest

Enter the Heat-Pump

Today the line-sets went in, as well as the massive heat-pump.

The covers on the channels are a great sign. These are paintable, so we’ll be shopping for some grey paint come Spring. They put a vacuum on the line-sets and they are all sound, so they charged and primed the system.… Read the rest

And the Next Day, Mini-Splits

Everything happens at once. Yesterday we took down a 75′ spruce tree, and today they started installing our ductless mini-splits.

Today, they installed the four head-units, the backer plates for the exterior channels, and the pad for the outdoor compressor. Tomorrow they install the line sets and hopefully the outdoor compressor.… Read the rest

One Year with Rooftop Solar

On Dec 23, 2020, I was finally given the OK to flip the switch to bring our eleven panel solar system online. It has been a learning event, for sure, this past year. The main thing I have learned is that we needed that spruce tree (at right in photo) removed, the consumption monitoring CT clamps installed, and five additional panels installed.… Read the rest

Pretty Frank Charcoal Seaside Deodorant FTW!

191 day! That last jar lasted 191 days! I could not be happier with this deodorant and have told several friends about it on the Facebooks. Thank you, Pretty Frank (formerly Primal Pit Paste), for this awesome product.

I was happy to see that the plastic cover has been replaced with metal, and the scent, which my wife finally noticed a few weeks back, has been dialed back a bit.… Read the rest

Modernizing My Temperature and Humidity Sensor

My basement temperature and humidity sensor has been up and running for 2.5 years now with hardly a hiccup at all. But, it is time for an upgrade.

I’ve made some tweaks to the page over the years, but I ‘ve grown less and less happy with the matplotlib implementation.… Read the rest

Michael James Hannan Obituary (1938 – 2021) The Day

Been one hell of a 21 months since my mother died. This is sure to leave a mark. My sister is my new hero, but this has all taken a toll on her. We got him home from the hospital with, literally, hours to go.… Read the rest

Installing Unifi controller Docker container on Synology NAS – Thiago Crepaldi

Really, I used this just as a guide to update the Unifi controller in the Docker container. You could do that a time or two before it gets simple, which it is. Just a new way of doing things, I guess.… Read the rest
